At Clean Air Mosquito Control, we specialize in eco-conscious, scientifically-proven mosquito prevention and treatment for families and businesses across the Tucson area. Our team of licensed technicians understands the Sonoran Desert’s unique mosquito behavior, from monsoon-driven breeding to the backyard irrigation and standing water that let mosquitoes thrive even in an arid climate. We deliver customized protection plans that reduce mosquito populations without relying on harsh chemicals.
As a locally-owned and operated company, we know the challenges Tucson residents face. Most people assume the desert means no mosquitoes, but our monsoon season and year-round irrigation tell a different story. From the first summer rains that fill every low spot and container, to the Aedes aegypti mosquitoes that breed in the smallest amount of standing water, our experts know how to target mosquitoes where they live and breed.
Serving: Tucson, Catalina Foothills, Casas Adobes, and Oro Valley.
Mosquito Control is Essential in Tucson, Catalina Foothills, Casas Adobes, and Oro Valley.
Tucson and its surrounding communities are known for stunning desert landscapes, mountain views, and a warm climate that draws people outdoors year-round. But the assumption that a desert city doesn’t have mosquitoes is one of the most common and costly misconceptions here. Tucson has a real mosquito problem, and it’s driven by conditions unique to the Sonoran Desert.
Desert Beauty, Surprising Breeding Grounds: Tucson’s mosquito activity spikes with the summer monsoon, typically from June through September, when heavy rains leave standing water across the valley. Backyard irrigation, drip systems, pool areas, decorative fountains, and even a saucer under a potted cactus give mosquitoes the still water they need to breed. The region is home to Aedes aegypti, an aggressive daytime biter that breeds in astonishingly small amounts of water and lives in close contact with people. Combine monsoon moisture with the intense summer heat that speeds up the mosquito life cycle, and populations can build fast. Without effective control, these pests can quickly take over your patio, yard, and outdoor living spaces.
Health and Safety Above All: Mosquitoes are more than an itchy nuisance. In Arizona, mosquitoes are known carriers of West Nile virus, which is reported in the state most years, and the Aedes aegypti species present in the Tucson area is a potential vector for diseases like dengue and Zika. Professional mosquito control is about more than comfort; it’s a proactive step in protecting the health of your family, pets, and community. By reducing mosquito populations around your home, you meaningfully lower the risk of disease transmission and create a safer outdoor environment for everyone.
As a veteran-owned, family-operated business, Silas and Melanie are passionate about protecting their community from mosquitoes and the diseases they can carry. Their family has experienced the effects of vector-borne illness firsthand, as well as having sensitivities to conventional chemicals. These experiences have strengthened their commitment to providing effective mosquito control through environmentally sustainable, natural solutions.
Silas and Melanie met in graduate school, where they studied entomology and mosquito biology. After they married, Silas joined the U.S. Army and served for 20 years as a medical entomologist. His distinguished military career included multiple overseas assignments, during which he developed strategies to protect service members from mosquitoes across a wide range of environments.
Silas holds a PhD in Entomology, is a Board Certified Entomologist, and has published more than 50 research papers on mosquito biology and pest control. Today, he and Melanie bring this extensive expertise to their natural mosquito control business.
Silas and Melanie are proud to call the Tucson area home, where they are raising their two children. As a family, they enjoy hiking, gardening, growing native plants, beekeeping, exploring the outdoors, and pursuing creative projects. Their appreciation for nature guides both their family life and their approach to responsible mosquito management.

Our Approach to Mosquito Control in Tuscon
Detailed Property Inspections: Our process begins with a thorough property audit. Our experienced technicians don’t just spray; they investigate. In a desert climate, breeding sites are often hiding in plain sight, in irrigation lines, pool equipment, and shaded, watered landscaping. We carefully inspect your property to identify the specific hot spots where mosquitoes breed and rest, then build a targeted treatment plan that maximizes effectiveness and minimizes environmental impac
Eco-Friendly Barrier Treatments: Our barrier spray treatments use a specialized blend of essential oils and organic repellents, including garlic extract and other plant-based ingredients. These natural compounds neutralize mosquitoes on contact and create a powerful deterrent barrier around your property. Unlike harsh synthetic chemicals, our eco-friendly sprays are safe for your family, pets, and beneficial pollinators like bees and butterflies once dried, so you can enjoy your outdoor spaces with real peace of mind.
Disrupting the Life Cycle: Beyond targeting adult mosquitoes, our treatments disrupt the mosquito life cycle to prevent future infestations. This matters especially in Tucson, where Aedes aegypti breeds in tiny pockets of standing water. We use specialized biological controls that stop mosquito larvae from reaching maturity, steadily reducing the overall population on your property. Combining larval control with our barrier sprays and habitat work delivers long-lasting relief from mosquitoes and the health risks they carry.
