Ticks wait in tall grass, leaf litter, wood piles, and along fences and walls. We treat those edges with the same plant-based approach, which is a big help for homes with dogs.
Natural tick control detailsMosquito Traps
Our mosquito traps, also called breeding buckets, lure in egg-laying female mosquitoes, then send them back out carrying a larvicide to hidden breeding spots in your yard. They’re especially useful against Aedes aegypti, the daytime biter now found across Albuquerque.

Talk to the Albuquerque team
Meet Jose Vazquez, Owner of Clean Air Mosquito Control Albuquerque
Jose Vazquez brought Clean Air Mosquito Control to Albuquerque after years in catering and hospitality, where his job was making sure every guest had a great experience. Now he helps Albuquerque families get their patios, backyards, and gatherings back from mosquitoes, using plant-based products chosen with kids, pets, and pollinators in mind.
Jose brings a proven system with him. Clean Air Mosquito Control is the sister brand of Clean Air Lawn Care, which was founded in Fort Collins, Colorado in 2006 and has been franchising since 2008. Our natural mosquito program is built on real entomology expertise, including guidance from Dr. Silas Davidson, a Board Certified Entomologist who served 20 years as a U.S. Army medical entomologist.
Mosquito Control Built for the Albuquerque Metro
Albuquerque is high desert, with less than ten inches of rain in a typical year, so most mosquito pressure here comes from water we add to the landscape. Irrigated lawns, drip systems, plant saucers, birdbaths, and gutters all hold enough water to breed in, and the summer monsoon fills every container in the yard. The bigger change is Aedes aegypti, the yellow fever mosquito, which the City of Albuquerque now tracks across the metro. It bites during the day, prefers people, and breeds in tiny containers right next to the house.
In the North Valley and Los Ranchos, the Rio Grande bosque, acequias, and irrigation ditches keep things green and give mosquitoes plenty of places to rest. Up in the Northeast Heights, the Foothills, and on the West Mesa, it’s shaded patios, drip lines, and courtyard planters. Our treatments target those spots, and our mosquito traps go after container breeders like Aedes aegypti. Curious about West Nile virus and other mosquito-borne illness in New Mexico? Frequently Asked Questions About Natural Mosquito Control in Albuquerque
Why are there more mosquitoes in Albuquerque than there used to be?
Two reasons: water and a newer species. Irrigation, drip systems, and monsoon rains create small pockets of standing water across the metro, and mosquitoes only need a bottle cap’s worth to breed. On top of that, Aedes aegypti, the yellow fever mosquito, has spread into Albuquerque. Unlike most local mosquitoes, it bites during the day, prefers people, and breeds in containers right next to homes, so backyards from the North Valley to the Northeast Heights are seeing more bites than they used to.
Does natural mosquito control work in Albuquerque’s dry climate?
Yes. In a dry climate, mosquitoes concentrate around the water and shade your yard provides, which makes them easier to target. We treat the shaded foliage, plant beds, and patio edges where they rest during the day, and we find and treat the standing water where they breed. Our plant-based products, including garlic extract and essential oils, reduce adult mosquitoes on contact and leave a barrier that discourages new ones from moving in.
Is your mosquito control pet-friendly and kid-friendly?
Yes. Our spray treatments use plant-based products chosen with kids, pets, and pollinators in mind, without harsh or synthetic chemicals. We ask that kids and pets stay off treated areas until the product dries, and then you’re free to enjoy your yard. We also skip open blooms and vegetable gardens so bees and butterflies can keep doing their thing.
Do you offer tick control in Albuquerque?
Yes. Ticks are less common here than in wetter states, but brown dog ticks are found across the Southwest and can live around homes, kennels, and anywhere dogs spend time. We treat the tall grass, leaf litter, wood piles, and fence lines where ticks wait for a host, using the same plant-based approach as our mosquito control. Many Albuquerque customers add tick control to their mosquito program.
What are mosquito breeding buckets?
Breeding buckets, which we call mosquito traps, are Mosquito Stations that give egg-laying female mosquitoes exactly what they’re looking for: a dark container with water. Inside, they pick up a larvicide that stops larvae from becoming biting adults, then carry it to other breeding spots around your yard. They work especially well against Aedes aegypti, and we check and refresh them every three to four weeks.
How often do you treat, and do you offer one-time treatments?
Most Albuquerque homeowners choose treatments every three to four weeks through mosquito season, which keeps activity low through irrigation season and the monsoon. We also offer one-time treatments for backyard parties, weddings, and other outdoor events. Book it a day or two ahead so your guests can enjoy the evening.
What can I do to reduce mosquitoes between visits?
Dump standing water at least once a week, since that’s about how long it takes eggs to become biting adults. Empty plant saucers, buckets, and toys, clean gutters, refresh birdbath water, and fix irrigation overspray that pools near patios or plant beds. Every container you empty is one less place for Aedes aegypti to breed.
