How Our Natural Mosquito Program Works

  1. On-site assessment

We walk your yard and find the shady corners, dense plants, and standing water where mosquitoes rest and breed.

  2. A plan for your yard

We build your treatments around your landscape and how your family uses the outdoor space.

  3. Regular natural treatments

We come back about every three weeks during mosquito season, adjusting for rain, heat, and mosquito activity. Your yard is ready to enjoy once the treatment dries.

  4. Habitat help between visits

We point out breeding spots like gutters, birdbaths, and plant saucers so you can keep mosquitoes down between visits.

Meet Kevin Kortekaas, Owner of Clean Air Mosquito Control Charlotte

Clean Air Mosquito Control Charlotte is locally owned by Kevin Kortekaas, who also owns Clean Air Lawn Care Charlotte. That means one local team you already know for natural yard care, now helping Charlotte families take back their evenings outside.

Clean Air Mosquito Control is the sister brand of Clean Air Lawn Care, the organic lawn care company from Fort Collins, Colorado. Our natural mosquito program is built with entomology expertise, including guidance from Dr. Silas Davidson, a Board Certified Entomologist who served 20 years as a U.S. Army medical entomologist.

Mosquito Control Built for Charlotte Yards

Charlotte’s long, hot, humid summers give mosquitoes a long season. Heavy clay soil holds water after summer storms, and tree-lined neighborhoods like Dilworth and SouthPark offer plenty of shade for mosquitoes to rest during the day. Creeks, retention ponds, and wooded lot edges add more damp, shady spots, and those same leafy borders are where ticks wait for a passing person or pet.

Mosquitoes only need a little standing water to breed, so we look for birdbaths, gutters, plant saucers, and low spots that stay wet. Trimming back dense plants and running a patio fan helps too, since mosquitoes don’t fly well in moving air. Curious about mosquito-borne illness? Our mosquito-borne disease guide covers what to know.

Frequently Asked Questions About Natural Mosquito Control in Charlotte

What is natural mosquito control?

Natural mosquito control uses plant-based ingredients like essential oils and garlic extract, plus habitat management like clearing standing water, to cut down mosquitoes in your yard without harsh or synthetic chemicals.

Is your mosquito control pet-friendly and kid-friendly?

Yes. Our plant-based treatments are chosen with kids, pets, and pollinators in mind. Your family and pets can enjoy the yard once the treatment dries.

Why are mosquitoes so bad in Charlotte?

Charlotte’s long, hot, humid summers, frequent storms, and clay soil that holds water create lots of breeding spots, and shady, tree-lined yards give mosquitoes a cool place to rest during the day. Treating those resting spots and clearing standing water makes a big difference.

How effective is natural mosquito control compared to traditional spraying?

Natural mosquito control may need more frequent visits than traditional spraying, but it works well as a barrier in the places mosquitoes rest. It’s also friendlier to pollinators like bees and butterflies than many synthetic sprays.

How long does a natural mosquito treatment last?

Treatments typically last about two to three weeks, depending on rainfall, temperature, and mosquito activity. Regular visits keep your yard consistently comfortable through the season.

Will natural mosquito sprays harm beneficial insects or plants?

We treat the shady foliage where mosquitoes rest instead of open flowers where pollinators feed, and our plant-based products are gentle on your landscaping. Bees and butterflies are left undisturbed.

Do I still need mosquito control if I have citronella candles or bug zappers?

Citronella candles and bug zappers only help in a small area. A natural mosquito treatment covers your whole yard, which gives you a more reliable, longer-lasting result.

What can I do to help between visits?

Empty standing water from birdbaths, gutters, and plant saucers at least once a week, trim back dense vegetation, and use an outdoor fan on your patio, since mosquitoes don’t fly well in moving air.
